WEAR PROTECTION IN POWER PLANTS

BROWN COAL POWER PLANTS HARD COAL POWER PLANTS BIOMASS POWER PLANTS THERMAL POWER PLANTS REPLACEMENT FUELS

In power plants, trouble-free, cost-efficient operation is a top priority because plant shutdowns, even those due to minor incidents, often have far-reaching consequences.
Due to the large volume of bulk materials stored and transported daily in power plants, the plant components in the transport and storage areas are particularly prone to wear.

Substantial wear is also incurred when conveying, pulverising, and preparing fossil fuels and when the recycling waste materials.

The wear protection solutions from the Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG ensure optimal protection of the plant components as well as the uninterrupted operation of the plant, and therefore improved cost efficiency as well.

In addition to the storage and transport areas, the components used to mill the coal and inject it into the boiler as well as the dust extraction and ash extraction components are affected by wear.

WEAR PROTECTION IN PURIFICATION PLANTS (WATER/WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT)

SEWER SYSTEMS PURIFICATION PLANTS PUMP STATIONS

In water management, the quality of the water distributed and processed is critically important. In this case, this means using efficient coating systems to protect the wastewater piping and sewage basin.

In addition to industrial wear and corrosion protection, for several years the Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG has also been offering the wastewater management industry with custom solutions to prevent wear. These solutions are grouped in the SC-AwaTec® product family. In the SC-AwaTec® product family, different mineral products were added to the proven materials cast basalt and hard ceramic.

With this variety of wear protection methods, Scholten operates as a competent partner for municipalities, cities, and companies specialised in concrete repair and sewer rehabilitation. Whether it’s a sewer system, purification plant, or pump station, the Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG supplies materials and wear protection systems for every need.

Cast basalt has established itself as a renowned material for the lining of spiral troughs in sewage treatment plants. After many years of positive experience in a large purification plant near Cologne, six further spiral troughs were lined with the patented system from the Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG.

WEAR PROTECTION IN THE CHEMICAL / PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY

The diversity of the processes used in the chemical industry means the corresponding wear protection must be of high quality and just as diverse. Safety and profitability are the top priorities here. The Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG addresses the high safety requirements with first class custom solutions to prevent wear and corrosion in the form of:

  • Wear-resistant piping
  • Lining cyclones
  • Brick lining sewer channels
  • and much more…

Numerous wear protection options, a broad portfolio of highly efficient materials, and almost 70 years of experience with customers in the chemical industry make Scholten a competent, reliable partner for durable solutions.

WEAR PROTECTION IN THE BEVERAGE INDUSTRY

In the beverage industry, the floors are regularly exposed to high levels of acidic chemicals. Cast basalt is the material that can withstand such chemicals easily and ensures the durability of the floors. The natural stone tiles – which are harmless to humans and the environment as well as fireproof, explosion-proof, and recyclable – are laid in a bed of mortar, and the joints are then sealed with a special epoxy adhesive; this allows the joints to be cleaned with water and without any chemicals to ensure full compliance with hygiene regulations. This is also ensured by the baseboard L-sections between the wall and floor. Cleaning with hot water is no problem for the basalt or for the special sulphate-resistant mortar.

The Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG develops solutions for floors and their various wear protection requirements and sells them under the brand name SC-IboTec®.
In the beverage industry, it is recommended to use a complete system made of cast basalt tiles and the corresponding installation and joint filling materials. Such a complete solution ensures the best possible value as well as the highest safety level and durability thanks to its high chemical resistance.

WEAR PROTECTION IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY

GRAIN FACTORIES ANIMAL FEED FACTORIES SUGAR FACTORIES SOY DAIRIES

The food industry is subject to strict regulations, and consumers have high expectations in terms of food quality. This also means the highest requirements are placed on the quality and functionality of the plants and machines used, and innovative, highly efficient wear protection solutions for the processing, storage, and transport of foods and animal feed are necessary. Specifically, the following requirements often must be met:

  • Abrasion resistance
  • Zero water absorption
  • Temperature and corrosion resistance
  • Suitable for use with foods
  • Neutral colour
  • Resistance to acids and alkalis

The various ceramic wear protection materials from the Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG are used in these cases.

Jointless coatings comply with food legislation and are especially easy to clean, and therefore hygienic and stain-resistant.

Many raw materials like sugar, grains, corn, coffee, and nuts are extremely rough and thus highly abrasive, and the degree of wear during transport and processing is correspondingly high. Heavy wear is also incurred when milling dry animal feed.

Lining beet unloading ramps and washing channels with cast basalt or hard ceramic: protection of the cement surfaces against premature deterioration due to soil, gravel, and sand Pipe elbows and piping in pneumatic grain unloading systems are equipped with a cast basalt or alumina ceramic lining.

Together with the corresponding mounting materials like adhesives, for example, Scholten offers products for the safe processing of foods in piping, chutes, silos, cyclones, etc. Even hoses (SC-FlexHoses) are very well suited for use in specific areas of the food industry. FDA approvals are available on request.

WEAR PROTECTION IN THE STEEL INDUSTRY

ALUMINIUM PLANTS FOUNDRIES STEEL AND ROLLING MILLS COKE PLANTS

The variety of processes in the iron and steel industry results in high demands on wear protection solutions to ensure uninterrupted and safe operation of the plants and systems. Due to the wide range of different operating temperatures, the solutions need to be analysed and tailored to the application through the use of suitable materials. Thanks to ceramic linings, maintenance costs are reduced, which in turn prevents costly downtime.
The areas subject to wear can be found in this case in the storage and treatment of the raw materials, the production of steel, sintering and rolling mills, coke plants, and blast furnaces.

In vortex dust collectors and cyclones needed to de-dust blast furnace gases, for example, the Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG uses a combined protection solution made of thick zirconia ceramic, alumina ceramic, and cast basalt tiles. Scale or sinter channels in rolling mills are lined with cast basalt tiles, but also with thin alumina ceramic tiles, to maintain the desired cross-sectional area. In the coal bunkers of coke plants, hard ceramic tiles are used to prevent the damp coal from caking.

WEAR PROTECTION IN THE CEMENT INDUSTRY

GLASSWORKS LIME, SAND, AND POTASH PLANTS

The extraction and treatment of mineral raw materials like ore, gravel, coal, sand, and similar materials causes extremely high wear. The corresponding plant components like bucket conveyor systems, bunkers, flotation systems, chain conveyors, and mills are exposed to extremely high stresses.

In close and trusting cooperation with plant operators and system suppliers, the Th. Scholten GmbH & Co KG ensures optimisation of the production process by selecting the suitable wear protection, and thus ensures longer service lives, helps prevent additional costs, and reduces existing costs.

WEAR PROTECTION IN RECYCLING

WASTE INCINERATION PLANTS PAPER MILLS SCRAP RECYCLING PLANTS

The subject of recycling is becoming increasingly important in light of the increasing scarcity of raw materials and the continuously increasing demand for consumer goods.
A variety of different materials are shredded in recycling processes, which leads to high wear on the parts of the shredder. The Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG also develops wear protection solutions for recycling plants that are individually tailored to the production process.

The high standards set by the Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG for the integration of the topic of “sustainability” into the company philosophy have existed since the founding of the company and starts with the use of the natural stone cast basalt, which is recyclable and does harm humans or the environment.

This responsibility extends to various areas: from construction waste, electronic waste, paper, and wood to household waste, all waste products are disposed of strictly according to the legal requirements. Furthermore, the use of durable wear protection solutions prevents material wear and damage to industrial plants as well as any potential pollution to the environment resulting from such wear and damage.
