WEAR PROTECTION IN THE BEVERAGE INDUSTRY

In the beverage industry, the floors are regularly exposed to high levels of acidic chemicals. Cast basalt is the material that can withstand such chemicals easily and ensures the durability of the floors. The natural stone tiles – which are harmless to humans and the environment as well as fireproof, explosion-proof, and recyclable – are laid in a bed of mortar, and the joints are then sealed with a special epoxy adhesive; this allows the joints to be cleaned with water and without any chemicals to ensure full compliance with hygiene regulations. This is also ensured by the baseboard L-sections between the wall and floor. Cleaning with hot water is no problem for the basalt or for the special sulphate-resistant mortar.

In the beverage industry, it is recommended to use a complete system made of cast basalt tiles and the corresponding installation and joint filling materials. The food industry is subject to strict regulations, and consumers have high expectations in terms of food quality. This also means the highest requirements are placed on the quality and functionality of the plants and machines used, and innovative, highly efficient wear protection solutions for the processing, storage, and transport of foods and animal feed are necessary. The variety of processes in the iron and steel industry results in high demands on wear protection solutions to ensure uninterrupted and safe operation of the plants and systems. Due to the wide range of different operating temperatures, the solutions need to be analysed and tailored to the application through the use of suitable materials. Thanks to ceramic linings, maintenance costs are reduced, which in turn prevents costly downtime.

In vortex dust collectors and cyclones needed to de-dust blast furnace gases, for example, the Th. Scholten GmbH & Co. KG uses a combined protection solution made of thick zirconia ceramic, alumina ceramic, and cast basalt tiles. Scale or sinter channels in rolling mills are lined with cast basalt tiles, but also with thin alumina ceramic tiles, to maintain the desired cross-sectional area. In the coal bunkers of coke plants, hard ceramic tiles are used to prevent the damp coal from caking.
